Community Noise

The theme for National Youth Week this year is ‘Our Voice. Our Impact’ and we want to know the impact friends have on decisions around sex and relationships.
We want to hear stories where your words, or your friends, have impacted in the following areas:

  • STI prevention; signs, symptoms, testing and treatment,
  • Stigma, discrimination and sexual health, and;
  • Healthy relationships and consent.

Young people (12-25) from all over Australia are invited to submit their stories to be selected by YEAH and the National Youth Sexual Health Council for promotion throughout National Youth Week. From the five best entries, one story will be featured on the resource section each day of NYW.

Submission Guidelines
Each piece will be a first-person account about a time when a peer’s voice (words) impacted on your knowledge and understanding of, or behaviour around, sexual health. Alternatively, the entry can be how your voice impacted someone.

  • Stories must be max 3mins in duration
  • Selected works will edited, and judged according to originality, content and delivery.
  • Deadline: March 30th 12pm EST
  • Files can be e-mailed to with the subject heading [submission NYW]
  • Audio files should be Wav files and MPEG Layer-3 files (mp3) and MPEG-4 Part 14 (m4a) or
  • an audio file using your iphone, android or send us a link using Sound Cloud
  • Submissions can be anonymous, under a pseudonym or credited to you. You decide.

Regardless of how independent, or immune to peer pressure we think we are, our words have an impact on our friend’s behaviour. In the angsty, awkward, exciting and fun world of youth sex and sexuality, this is especially true. So get sharing!
