PERSONAL BACKGROUND:

Karen Cochrane is a very experienced art house film and cinema marketing manager. As well as the publicity and promotional management content of her professional roles, she has had extensive experience in project advertising and event management. She has also represented a leading art house film distribution company at the Berlin Film Festival, Milan Film Market and EcoCinema Film Festival (Greece) as a part of an acquisitions/programming team. Karen, in partnership with Jan Cochrane-Harry and Leigh Harry, developed a series of children's books not yet published titled WHYCHYPROOF.

Karen is the sole parent of her daughter Oona, born 1998. Karen developed a rare autoimmune disease in her pregnancy called HELP SYNDROME. She experienced rapid degeneration of vital organ function and palette production and Oona was born via emergency caesarean 8 weeks early, weighing only 3 pounds.
Karen and Oona recovered and strengthened after the birth. The experience of the disease and the revelation of love and service that emerges when one's child comes to the world provoked a deep and passionate desire in Karen to contribute to resource children to protect them from the negative impact of disease by addressing the causal conditions including education, poverty, abuse, political policy and social attitudes.

Karen's contribution to Y.E.A.H. naturally includes a commitment to use film as a tool to raise public awareness, initiate new levels of public discussion and create new levels of personal relationship within the community to all related issues that derive from the complexities of HIV & AIDS.
