PERSONAL
BACKGROUND:
Hayley is a registered psychologist in the state of Victoria and completed her doctoral studies in health psychology at Deakin University in 2005. Her research and clinical experience has focused on sexual and reproductive health, with a particular emphasis on the concerns and needs of young people.
Hayley’s personal commitment to HIV/AIDS began when a relative was diagnosed with the disease in 2001. Since this time, Hayley has endeavoured to build her knowledge and understanding of this illness and its presence in the Australian community. Her motivation to first become involved with YEAH was driven by her realisation that there exists an overwhelming lack of awareness of HIV/AIDS in the general public (particularly among young people), which appears to be contributing to both the increasing number of infections that are occurring, and the stigma that still exists for people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Sharing YEAH’s vision for a creative and innovative approach to education and information regarding HIV/AIDS, Hayley became a Director of the organization in 2005, and took on the role of Chairperson for the Board in 2006.She currently works across a range of projects and areas at YEAH.
