History of YEAH
YEAH was founded in March 2005 by Alischa Ross and is Australia's first independent not-for profit health promotion organisation promoting HIV & AIDS awareness to the general community with a specific focus on youth.
With a focus on four areas:
- Development and distribution of resources for educational networks
- Sustainable public events incorporating the creative arts
- Outreach through educational workshops (primarily targeting schools)
- Broad based engagement with media
YEAH’s mission is to:
- Engage and empower the Australian community to understand and respond to the local and global issues of HIV/AIDS
- Ensure all young Australians have the skills and support to make positive choices about how to protect their sexual health and the sexual health of others.
YEAH’s Goals:
- To reduce HIV and in turn, STI infection rates amongst all young people.
- To promote open and accessible information and public health messages around HIV/AIDS, sexual health and development.
- Connect young people to the realities of the local and global impacts of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
YEAH's logo:

The Ribbon:
The ribbon is constructed of silhouettes and objects that are associated with young people. The idea behind the silhouettes is to show the variety of interests that young people may have, without revealing their religion, race, social cast and class. Alongside them are objects that young people may come across in their day to day lives. The use of recognisable objects are layed out in the form of the symbolic 'red ribbon', the international symbol for HIV/AIDS, without physically showing it. The dominance of the ribbon reflects the aim of "involvement and participation of young people in every step of decision making, design, delivery and evaluation of youth programs and events"
The Text:
The concept behind the logo for 'Youth Empowerment Against HIV/AIDS' is to portray a sense of individuality, freedom to speak, and leave one's mark. This was shown was by hand writing the letters. The use of quotation marks around the letters Y, E, A, and H further enhances the idea of making a statement and being heard.
