I realised that in my 13 years of schooling HIV has only come up now... after a class discussion where it became painfully obvious that the common idea amongst my friends was that HIV is only for "gay men and African babies" I figured it's something that definitely needs to be addressed because that kind of ignorance can be dangerous.

Red Aware is an opportunity to run your own youth event supported by YEAH and made possible through the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust.

To meet a growing demand from young people wanting to promote HIV/AIDS and sexual health awareness in their communities, Red Aware was born. Starting in July 2010, Red Aware is giving 20 people aged 15 to 29 the opportunity to run their own awareness event.

Those who are passionate about promoting HIV awareness in Australia, have a flair for event management or are just interested in getting involved should apply. If your application is successful, you’ll be able to get your friends together and start planning your own Red Aware event. The challenge is to unite young Australians to Think, Talk and Act Red to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and sexual health. To help get your event going, Red Aware will be providing the 20 people selected with a customised toolkit of their favourite Red Aware materials as well as online access to our event space known as The Red Wall.
