I realised that in my 13 years of schooling HIV has only come up now... after a class discussion where it became painfully obvious that the common idea amongst my friends was that HIV is only for "gay men and African babies" I figured it's something that definitely needs to be addressed because that kind of ignorance can be dangerous.

Red Aware has been developed to meet a growing demand from young people wanting to host their own events that promote HIV/AIDS and sexual health awareness. YEAH recognises that young people are best placed to engage their friends at school, uni and in the community, so we’ve decided to build a program to give young people the support they need to put this into action.

Those who take part in Red Aware will receive access to multimedia resources and online networking spaces to assist them in delivering their ‘Red Aware’ campaigns and events.

The pilot program was made possible with support from MTVs Staying Alive Foundation. YEAH would also like to acknowledge the very generous contribution made by the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust. Their support have enabled the Red Aware Program to continue to empower young people to lead change in their communities.
